So finally I am writing one of these again, the lowdown of my latest collection (I have never liked the term "album", especially for us joyful amateurs. It's far too glamourous. Sounds too 70s/80s US rock for me too. Do albums actually exist anymore?). I had originally planned to finish this collection last year but laziness (again!) and other commitments held me back. But volume two has arrived!

Some of the recordings actually started last summer (2011) and one or two being lucky enough to be completed (Green Lanes being one which you may have heard before). The majority of the recordings were recorded between July and November 2012 at KRH Studios, Harajuku, Tokyo and at my flat in Shakuji Town, Nerima about 15 Kms away (I think). All again on my home port studio. Gradually becoming vintage! Once again, no click tracks were used and the only form of editing was through "punch ins" on the multi-track (apart from on "The Twelfth". I cheated on that one!).

Another single handed jobby featuring just me on everything this time (no guests on this one - I estimate that there must be well over 100 overdubs from me across all the tracks), there's an interesting mix of songs both new and old from what I have written over the years. The title comes from a lyric in one of the songs and the theme of time often crops up in some of the subject matter. Its not a central concept throughout, although I guess it could be if you listen to it in a particular way.

Here we go...

All songs written, instruments played and recordings produced by Andrew Tyrone Rodgers.

ALWAYS BE THERE

The oldest song on here in terms of composition. I started writing this in 1998. I also remember recording this with my university band at a studio in Southampton, England on my 19th birthday. It ended up sounding rubbish though. Hopefully this sounds better.

GREEN LANES

In the summer of 2002, I briefly lived and worked in the south of France in an area called the Gorges Du Tarn near Millau. I lived in a tent. No TV. No internet. Absolutely nothing to do on my day off apart from cycle everywhere. Was fantastic. Whilst I was cycling one day I came up with this melody in my head and gave it a working title named after a village nearby called Mostuejouls...

It was just a random village but always looked so majestic as I went by at dusk. So the name of that ended up being the last word for the ending line of the verses. Apart from I didn't end up writing any!!!!!! I just hummed it for several years! Fortunate looking back. I recall I had a guitar but no dictaphone or means of recording it. The melody just stuck in my head all that time. Amazing really. I never knew I was a hard drive.

Not until many later did I finally decided to do something about it. My Dad had always encouraged me to write about places that I grew up or visited when I was younger, so I chose to honour that by writing about the Harringey area of London we used to live in during the mid 1980s. So yes. Time fits into this one I guess.

DELAYED

Quite a new one. Grew on me over the past year. This is a profound apology to someone. I'm sorry. I will change.

PLASTIC HANDS

A slightly experimental one with lots of vocals and fat bass. Kind of did this on the spot to see what would happen. I guess I was thinking of shoe gaze element on this one. The love it or hate it keyboard at the end is a nod to Talking Heads circa Speaking In Tongues.

ERENA IS A FOOL

On how people's paths can take different turns. The fruits and the hardships. This one was actually recorded in England.

THIS TIME

This was a Remedy's Library tune that got away. Luckily I got it back.

THE TWELFTH

The newest of the bunch along with "Plastic Hands", this was pretty much improv. There is a plastic hand on this. Features a phone conversation to a loved one the day after.

CONSTANTINO ON MY MIND

Written after a bout of madness a couple of years ago. Amazing how things turn out better than expected.

AVOIDED

This is an old song that I have recently unearthed. I remember writing this on the floor of my bedroom in the last year of University. Probably sulking about some girl and wasting my time over it. Got a melody though. The lyrics are exactly the same as when I wrote them in 2001. They're not so bad for a silly 21 year old.
